AHSAA Discusses How DragonFly Streamlines Their State Athletic Association Management

The Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) shares DragonFly’s comprehensive platform simplifies the complex day-to-day operations required for athletic management across the state. From eligibility tracking to targeted communications, DragonFly has proven to be an invaluable resource for state associations looking to centralize their workflows.

Marvin Chou, Assistant Director at AHSAA, praises DragonFly’s all-in-one approach, describing how it relieves the worry and hassle of tracking routine tasks. "The biggest part, I think, with DragonFly is just not having to worry about the little things," Chou explained. “Not having to worry about, ‘Hey, are all my kids' forms done? Has everybody signed everything? Do we have this? Do we have that?’ DragonFly brings everything together into one place. I log in every morning, I check that everything's good, and I move on with the rest of the day.”

The adaptability of DragonFly’s platform is another standout feature for Chou. “The best part about DragonFly is it is a one-stop shop, but it has the capabilities of adding anything else that it needs,” he said. “I deal mostly with the academic side, so schools send me information, whether it’s transcripts for eligibility or questions about schedules on games. DragonFly just grabs all that data from PowerSchool and the State Department, ingests it into the software, and calculates eligibility—so just to have that ability has been a great tool.”

DragonFly’s powerful communication tools make it easy to keep staff and officials informed. “We send all of our mass emails out through the software,” Chou explained. “We can filter it by principals, aides, head coaches, by sport, by district, by classification. So, whether we’re honing in on a specific group or sending to the whole state, it’s so easy to use.”

For Chou, DragonFly’s ability to integrate seamlessly with other state systems is a game-changer. By linking to state databases, DragonFly automatically pulls necessary data, calculates eligibility, and consolidates tasks that typically would take hours of coordination.

Reflecting on DragonFly’s impact, Chou shared how the platform feels not only like an essential tool but like a part of their team. “When I talk to other state associations, when I talk to other people about what DragonFly is about, I tell them it’s about family,” Chou said. “It’s about making sure that your job is as easy as it can be because that’s their goal.”

With DragonFly’s platform, AHSAA leaders can streamline administrative tasks, freeing up time to focus on what matters most—supporting students, schools, and staff across the state.
